Upsala Still Watching The Fire Closely and Conditions Shift

Upsala is seeing calmer wildfire activity thanks to cooler weather and scattered rain, but Fire Chief Doug Kiezebrink says the threat is far from over. The fire remains roughly five kilometres south of town, and residents returning after last week’s voluntary evacuation are being urged to stay alert.

Kiezebrink explains why “the dragon is still sleeping,” why nearly 90% of the community left early, and how resort country just south of Upsala has suffered devastating losses. He also shares concerns about long-standing resource gaps, saying only MNR crews on the ground can fully secure the area.

This update covers current conditions, community impact, and what Upsala needs as the wildfire season continues.
