Sault Transit Launches New “Sault Loops” Routes Starting June 7
A major overhaul is coming to Sault Ste. Marie Transit, as the city prepares to launch a new loop-based bus system designed to improve efficiency and reduce wait times.
The new model will consolidate seven traditional routes into four main loops, each operating in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions—effectively creating eight routes with buses arriving every 15 minutes.
City officials say the changes are based on months of public consultation and data collection, aiming to make transit more reliable and easier to navigate. However, not everyone is on board.
Some residents have raised concerns about longer commute times, increased walking distances, and reduced access in certain neighbourhoods. An online petition has already gained hundreds of signatures.
The city acknowledges there will be an adjustment period and encourages riders to reach out for support as they adapt to the new system.
