Province Announces $2.8M Upgrade for Thunder Bay and Marathon Ports
Ontario is investing more than $2.8 million to upgrade port infrastructure in Thunder Bay and Marathon. The funding, delivered through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund, will expand storage and cargo staging at the Port of Thunder Bay and support the creation of a new marine terminal in Marathon.
Local leaders say the investment will strengthen supply chains, support good-paying jobs, and position the region for future growth tied to forestry, mining, grain, potash, and critical minerals from the Ring of Fire.
This report includes remarks from Premier Doug Ford, MPP Kevin Holland, Port CEO Chris Heikkinen, and regional leaders.
