VIA Rail Reroute Proposal Gains Momentum | Rogers tv
A long-running proposal to reroute VIA Rail passenger service through Lloydminster is continuing to gain regional support, most recently with an endorsement from the Town of Vermilion. Lloydminster Mayor Gerald Aalbers says the proposal could benefit communities along the Prairie North Line, while local rail enthusiast Ron Gillies believes passenger rail continues to resonate with many Canadians. VIA Rail, however, says it cannot support the proposal in its current form, citing safety, infrastructure, and service concerns.
