Fire Rips Through Construction Site in Penticton
A massive overnight fire tore through a construction site in Penticton, prompting an immediate emergency response.
Fire crews were called just after 10 p.m. on May 27th to the site on Green Avenue West, where a three-storey building under construction quickly went up in flames. The fire escalated to a third alarm, bringing in about 60 firefighters and mutual aid from neighbouring communities.
The blaze destroyed the structure, damaged four nearby homes, and forced the evacuation of 16 residences. As of Thursday morning, many residents remain displaced due to an unstable crane at the site.
Despite the scale of the fire, there are no reported injuries. Crews also worked to contain spot fires caused by embers that spread several blocks away.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
