In Focus: Free To Be Me takes an insightful look at the trials and tribulations of living a transgender life in Simcoe County. Meet Ivy from Midland who shares her story of coming to terms with her authentic self and finding inner peace while at the same time continuing to battle demons that fuel the fires of discrimination and prejudice. Esen Mau, who recently had transformative surgery, says no one chooses to be transgender – “when we come out we know we could lose everything - jobs, family and friends.” Carl presented as female when he first met Carrie. Their relationship has blossomed to the point where they now plan on being married as husband and wife. In Focus: Free To Be Me sheds light on many misconceptions and myths surrounding a transgender life. It provides information that broadens awareness and highlights support services offered to transgender individuals and their families. You will discover how transgender people are just that, people with a desire to live a life that is authentic to them; a life that allows them the freedom to be who they are.
