In Focus: Through Their Eyes
In May 2010, over 2400 Canadian students travelled across the Atlantic to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. For many, this experience was life changing. This documentary is told from the 35 Barrie Eastivew High School students who took part in the journey. It is the experience seen through their eyes.
Producer Steve McEown embedded himself with those Barrie Eastview students. He accompanied them as they travelled to France, Holland and Belgium, stood with them on Normandy Beach and visited Vimy Ridge. As they did, he felt the pride to be Canadian as he attended the numerous functions honouring our war dead.
“These students not only learned about our wartime history, they experienced it with every emotion. To be standing at a site where these events took place, where history was made, where battles were won and lost and where so many Canadians paid the ultimate price for freedom, one can’t help but be moved. Returning home, I know the purpose of this journey was fulfilled, we continue to preserve our past through the experiences of our future. Lest We Forget.”
