Sault Ste. Marie City Council Seeks New Operator for former Pointe des Chenes Campground Site
Four years after the closure of the Lions Club-run campground, Sault Ste. Marie is opening the door for new proposals at Pointe des Chenes. Officials say the waterfront property is a “gem” and must serve the public, potentially transforming into a resort, retreat, or modernized campground. The city wants a new operator to invest in the former campground lands while preserving the area’s popular beach, disc golf course, and day-use amenities. Any future project must enhance the site while remaining accessible to the community.
