Ontario Protects Northern Forestry Jobs With New $5 Million Funding Package

Ontario is taking action to preserve jobs in Northern Ontario’s forestry sector with a $5 million investment that supports sustainability and innovation. Minister Kevin Holland

The Forest Biomass Program will fund projects that reduce waste, diversify wood product markets, and strengthen community infrastructure.

The province has positioned this initiative as part of a long-term plan to maintain competitiveness in forestry while ensuring that northern and Indigenous communities benefit from the economic opportunities generated by the sector.

Kevin Holland, Associate Minister of Forestry and Forest Products, highlighted that this program helps the sector adapt to trade pressures, shifting markets, and environmental responsibilities. For many communities, this investment means more opportunity to develop local capacity and create new revenue streams from what was once considered waste.
