Thousands March Across Ontario Demanding Accountability From Ford Government

Thousands of people across Ontario took part in a coordinated Day of Action on May 30, pushing back against a wide range of provincial decisions affecting public services, transparency, and local democracy.

While Toronto saw the largest march, northern communities held their own rallies, saying the impact of Queen’s Park policies is felt even more sharply outside major urban centres.

In Sault Ste. Marie, residents gathered to raise concerns about underfunded hospitals, aging infrastructure, wastewater issues, and what they describe as a growing disconnect between provincial decision-making and northern realities.

Many here say choices made hundreds of kilometres away are reshaping their communities without meaningful local input, leaving small cities to carry the consequences.

Protesters also pointed to broader issues across the province, including the expansion of private clinics, cuts to public services, weakened transparency laws, and the use of the notwithstanding clause.

Organizers say the movement is about more than one sector — it’s a call for accountability, stronger public systems, and a voice for communities that feel increasingly overlooked.
