Connect the Dots Tops Over 250,000 Pounds of Rescued Food in Algoma

Connect the Dots Community Harvest has reached a remarkable milestone: more than 250,000 pounds of rescued food since the organization began in 2017. What started as a small, grassroots effort has grown into a city-wide network that now saves over 10,000 pounds of food every month and distributes it to dozens of community groups across Sault Ste. Marie.

Connect the Dots works closely with partners like Harvest Algoma, local food banks, shelters, Indigenous organizations, youth programs, and community kitchens to ensure rescued food reaches the people who need it most.

The organization collects surplus food from grocery stores, bakeries, farmers markets, and local businesses, then redistributes it through a growing network of community partners.

These collaborations are what make large-scale food rescue possible. Each group plays a role — from sorting and storing food to preparing meals and delivering support to vulnerable residents.

As the organization continues to expand, one of its most important tools is its food rescue van. The van has allowed Connect the Dots to pick up larger donations, respond quickly to calls from local businesses, and support more community partners than ever before. To keep this momentum going, the organization is raising funds to purchase the van long-term.
